Penny Black – E J Zyla

December 6, 2010

Today we showcase our eighth contributor to the Penny Black Project, E J Zyla!  E J is a self-taught artist who writes, illustrates, and creates artists books, zines, and works on paper.  She is currently writing and illustrating a series of children’s books for adults that lean towards graphic novels more than a traditional story book.  A bit of a ‘late bloomer’, she is found ‘scribbling’ and ‘making’ well into the dark of night where she cocoons herself in worlds of her making.  E J is currently teaching herself to paint in oils and is influenced by concept and character design, as well as computer gaming art.  Recent exhibitions include “Draw more” at Jugglers Artspace and “E J Zyla” at Grub St (both in Brisbane).  She is also coordinator of the 4 Words 4 Paper projects and her website can be found here!  The image above is E J’s response to Project 4.

There has been a lot of interest in E J Zyla’s work since the opening of the exhibition this weekend (thank you to everyone who braved the weather and came to visit us!  We really appreciated the turn-out).  Just to let interested parties know, E J has now put prices on her pieces so if you are interested in making a purchase, please contact MSS (price list below).  Please be quick if you do not want to be disappointed!
