At Lock Up!

December 18, 2009

Well, the last couple of weeks have been so hectic that there has literally been no time for posting!  There has, however, been a lot happening in terms of construction with Myrtle Street Studio….

Once the framing was completed about a week ago now, the rooms have taken shape seemingly overnight.  One of the most exciting additions was the large 3-part sliding glass door to the front of the space which was also assembled last week.  In amongst this work I have been chasing up eyewash stations and revolving doors for the darkroom (which I’ve affectionately named ‘the Tardus’).  So, today as I type this, we will have the studio at lock-up stage with all external doors on and lockable in time for the holidays!  And maybe even an external paint job on the house completed by Xmas Eve too….

In the meantime, I have been fortunate enough to get some time off the weekend before last to take in another great print exhibition – ‘Stories of Our Making’ at the Tweed River Art Gallery in Murwillumbah, northern NSW.  This work also exhibited in the UK earlier this year and is a great overview of contemporary Australian printmakers currently exploring issues of cultural identity.  Well worth a visit over the Xmas break not only for the show, but the beautiful views and excellent food at the cafe too!

As for MSS, this will be the last blog post for the year as I sign off for a well-earned break.  I will keep posting photo’s when further work is done and will be back on-line in late January 2010 with some more information on exhibiting at MSS!

Happy Holidays!
