All About Books!

September 28, 2009

Everything is really starting to come together with the construction side of Myrtle Street Studio at the moment!  Our builder will begin work this week so hopefully by next week I will have some photo’s of initial alterations on the space to share.  Carving up some of the slab to make room for the plumbing is first on the agenda and I’ve never been so interested in pipes before!

In the meantime I’ve had quite a few questions about what the fine art/book shop is all about and thought that the best way to explain this would be to direct people to similar spaces around the world which can be visited online (or in person if you happen to be dropping by one of them!).  Have fun browsing the list below:

Boekie Woekie – an artist run gallery and bookstore in Amsterdam.

Book Art Book Shop – London based bookshop and exhibition space.

Bookstorming – Paris based artist’s book bookshop.

Fruitmarket Gallery Bookshop – Book art and contemporary exhibition space in Edinburgh

Grahame Galleries & Editions – Brisbane based fine artist books, prints and works on paper – Noreen Grahame is a wealth of knowledge and this is a ‘must see’ destination if you love paper based art and are visiting Brisbane.

Owl and Lion Gallery – Book shop/exhibition space/studio in Edinburgh.

Permanent Gallery/Bookshop – Independent and fine art books + zines for sale and exhibition space in Brighton (UK).

Port Jackson Press – Melbourne based fine art prints for sale.

Australian Print Workshop – Another Melbourne based fine art print store.

This list is by no means exhaustive but it does give some indication as to the kind of print/book shop that Myrtle Street Studio will contain for those that are curious…

    Hi JD

Thanks for the book list. You might like to also check out the “books” tab on Bellebyrd, it covers a lot of info on artist’s books.

good luck with the new studio

Glad you liked the book list Blakkyrd. And thanks for pointing me to your ‘books’ tab too – just had a quick look and I know I am going to have to spend more time trawling through this!
