Plans Afoot…

September 20, 2009

With construction of the studio due to start the week after next, I thought I’d share a little bit of the plans with you (as shown above).  We have planned for a modular gallery space which has two moveable walls which can be slid out when required to create two rooms for hanging of work.  When not in use, they can be slid back to create more open studio space and one of the rooms will permanently house an etching press in its centre with room to move around it.  We have also created a book/print shop area to the front of the space where people can come in and leisurely browse the works available (with assistance).  Large glass sliding doors at the entry make the space an extremely open and inviting place to slip into while being located on the south side of the building means that they do not receive any direct sun during the day.  Overall the studio has a really lovely open plan to it which allows passers-by to check out the action at the press – in keeping with the Queensland vernacular we hope!

On another exciting note, the business cards have just arrived in time for a jaunt away to TINA next week.  All designed and ordered by Ash (and with a special Saturday delivery) – she did an amazing job don’t you think?  I’m looking forward to catching up with the zine and general arts scene in Newcastle and letting everyone know there is now somewhere new in Brisbane to stock their zines and small press works – will let you know how it all goes!

On the floor plan above, in which direction is the street frontage?

Hi Michelle – on the side where the glass sliding doors are. It faces towards Myrtle Street.

So Myrtle St is in Grange? Wishing you all the best with this fabulous project. I come to Bris from time to time and will eagerly follow your progress. I’m very excited for you.
