The Start of Summer…

Well, almost!  Three more days till the official start of summer and stinger season here on the Queensland Coast.  It also ushers in the beginning of the wet season which we experienced a little of on Monday night when a wonderful thunderstorm swept through Brisbane – our first real rainfall in a while now.  The thunderstorm produced a torrential downpour which amongst other things, turned the freshly dug out space where Myrtle Street Studio’s new slab and retaining walls are going into a swimming pool when one of the downpipes burst!  We also had our air-conditioning unit propped up beside the pit and this came precariously close to falling in too as soil fell away around it.  All is well now and if you’d like to see a few photo’s of how the space is coming along then just click here.

With delays due to the retaining wall and slab requiring re-building, I have made the decision to hold off opening the space till July 2010.  In the meantime, applications for exhibiting, launches and stocking the bookshop will become available in December for those interested.

The next couple of weeks will see me overseas so (depending on what the internet reception is like) I may have some travelling tales to tell over at my personal blog and if you check back in here when I get back there will hopefully be photo’s of a finished slab and new retaining walls + maybe even some further construction to show!  Am looking forward to the trip but will miss not being able to see the changes that happen over the next couple of weeks – excited though at the prospect of what I’ll come back to….

Also, if you are wondering where the lovely image on the solarplate above came from – it is an image of a jellyfish from Ash’s collection which she took while away at the same place I am heading to :)

Oh Dear! Nothing worthwhile is ever easy though, is it? It’ll be fabulous once it’s all finished.

Hi Sophie! Thanks so much for letting me know :) ..
That was care of a good friend Alarna who operates Little Jane Street. I didn’t put in for Finders Keepers this year but Alarna will be there on her stall and I will hopefully be in there to have a look around at some stage on Saturday. And yes, extremely busy at the moment! Looking foward to the trip and a real break for part of it xx
